RTW
provides a software upgrade with costs for specific hardware versions
of the well known SurroundMonitor
10800X series. The upgrade features additional functionality i. e.
ITU BS.1770 Loudness measurement functions as well as a new additional
quasi DIN scale for digital measurements. New models of the 10800X
series are equipped with software version V6.0 as standard.
SurroundMonitor 10800 has been the first unit of the successful SurroundMonitor
line for years and the first visualisation system with the unique
and pioneering Surround
Sound Analyzer featuring an intuitive understandable graphical
representation of surround signals.

The main target of the version 6.0 upgrade
was provision of some ITU Loudness measurement functionality also for
our long lasting owners of 10800X
SurroundMonitors. Therefore we added RLB- (K-) filter as described
in the actual ITU recommendation. This filter can be used as a
Loudness indicator for the individual surround channels as well as for
the Dialnorm measurement and the
Surround
Sound Analyzer. With bargraph
loudness measurement the ITU dB LU scale comes into use, which shows a
positive and a negative value area. The 0 dB LU point can be adjusted
in the range from –25 dB FS to –10 dB FS as well as the
integration time for the individual channels, the summed momentary
value and the Surround
Sound Analyzer (125 ms to 1.5
sec). In addition a summed integrated (shorttem) Loudness measurement
can be displayed with integration time of 1 to 12 seconds. A gating
function (threshold –30 dB LU to 0 dB LU) can be inserted in the
shortterm chain, to eliminate low level modulation components from the
calculation.

With
the software version 6.0 another scale for PPM measurements in the
digital domain is provided and well known from other RTW equipment:
ARD+9. This "Quasi-DIN-Scale" (quasi-analog scale reg. ARD
recommendation) shows a display range from –60 to +9 dB. 0 dB is
fixed to a digital input level of –9 dB FS. A 0 dB FS 997 Hz sine
wave signal will read +9 dB on this scale. Integration time preset is
10 ms. A lot of users like this kind of scale with a headroom above 0
dB because they are used to the behavior from the analog domain.
Working with an integration time of 10 ms and the 9 dB headroom,
equipment overload is almost impossible.
